Our summer break is coming quickly to an end, but we still have enough time to get some fun in. After years of driving past the exit to Timpanogos Cave we finally decided to take it. We scheduled an early morning hike time and we were set.
This is the way we looked most of the hike up. Miki was in the lead, followed by Sam, then me and Jill. Kay ventured back and forth. It's not that Jill and I are slow. We conserve our energy. Somewhere along the way we came to the conclusion that the "short legged people" move their legs faster to compensate for their shortness.
Whatever the reason we were thankful for the many spots along the way for taking breaks.
The trail itself was fun with the tunnels and beautiful views.
The last time I was on this trail I was in Middle school, and I don't remember the sidewalks and rock walls. I remember gravel and log lined trails.
I've said it before and I'll say it again; it doesn't matter where we go, Kay spots all the power related objects. In all fairness though we were told to watch for this specific pole. Kay's brother also works for the power company, and he's the one who repaired this particular pole.
The trail was a lot steeper than I remembered it, and these benches along the way were well used by us.
Facial expressions do a good job of telling a tale. Sam looks bored (from waiting for Jill and I to catch up), Jill looks tired, and Miki is worried. She was dead set that rocks were going to come rolling off of the mountain and crush us because we stopped on the red line- such a stickler for the rules.
Once inside the cave it was really cool, literally cool. We were told to prepare for 45*. So on went the jackets and the rest of the time we were in awe.
This formation is called the "Heart of Timpanogos". It is over 5 feet tall and is estimated to weigh over 2 tons.
This last part we were shown reminded us all of chocolate, caramel covered marshmallows. Going through the cave we passed by "cave popcorn" and other formations that reminded some of the people of tacos- it was getting to be lunch time.
It didn't take nearly as long to get down the trail as it did to get up. The view below us was so pretty.
Like I said, it was getting to be lunch time. After seeing popcorn, tacos and marshmallows we settled on Panda Express, Sam's favorite place to eat.
